The land on which St. Christopher’s North York Church and St. Christopher’s Richmond Hill Church is the traditional territory of the Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee (haw-den-oh-shaw-nee) and Anishinabek (an-ee-shh-na-bek) Nations, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. This territory was the subject of the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant (1142 AD), an agreement between the Iroquois Confederacy and the Ojibwe and allied nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. This territory is also covered by the Toronto Purchase (1805). Today, Toronto is home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island. We thank God for the indigenous people sharing this land with us.
